This year, the Retro Jordan is the perfect combination of both of those ideals. Borrowing design language from the beloved Air Jordan 3, the newest member of MJ's signature shoe family also introduces a brand new FastFit system, giving wearers the most secure lockdown fit imaginable by simply pulling on a tab. Inspired by flight utility, the AJ XXXIII derives its bold form from visible technology while tastefully integrating design elements of the Air Jordan III. Functionally, the revolutionary new FastFit system supplies ultimate lockdown support. A knit textile upper combined with a carbon reinforced FlightSpeed Plate and Zoom Air Unit reduces weight while providing the necessary propulsion for takeoff.
From day one, flight has been central to the game of basketball. And Air Jordan Shoes innovation has been key in assisting athletes as they prepare for takeoff. With the AJ XXXIII, Air Jordan technology takes a daring leap forward, utterly abandoning convention with the new FastFit entry, tightening, and release system. Designed by Jordan senior footwear designer Tate Kuebris with oversight from vice president of design David Creech, the Air Jordan 33 takes inspiration from the exposed technology used on NASA's spacesuits.
The traction on the New Air Jordans 2019 reminded me a lot of the Nike Kobe AD NXT 360, and both patterns performed similarly. Those that wait for a solid rubber colorway should receive slightly better grip solely based on the rubber compound, but as it stands, the Air Jordan 33 was solid. When compared to the Air Jordan 31 and 32 the 33 is the best of the bunch. The concept of revealing the inner workings of the shoe's tech led the designers to land on FastFit, a first-of-its-kind system which allows for a manually customizable fit. Often in footwear design, tech components are hidden to allow for a more traditional look, but designers were determined to defy convention—even if it presented a challenge.
